Situated in the valley bottom on the river of the Adige, Trento is a quiet and industrious city rich of history, as seen by its center that has in the ancient and majestic Piazza Duomo, its fulcrum. In the side streets a series of aristocratic palaces mainly of the Renaissance age preserve historical treasures and are seats of important institutions like the Praetorian Palace, which hosts the Diocesan Museum, Thun Palace, now center of the town hall, Sardagna Palace where there’re the rooms of the Tridentino Museum of Natural Sciences and outside the ancient walls, Albere Palace which hosts the city base of Mart, the Museum of modern Art of Trento and Rovereto. In the description of the city can’t miss the Buonconsiglio Castle, that hosted for five centuries the Prince Bishops and where was written part of the history of the city, its territory, and even Italy. The center is animated by shops, restaurants, pizzerias and wine shops, where you can taste the gastronomical specialties and the excellent regional wines and during Advent, by the Christmas Market. Trento is a small but vibrant center for the University and the centers of excellence in innovative research fields. Just south of the city there’s also a small airport with a museum dedicated to Gianni Caproni, the pioneer engineer of Italian airforce that between 1910 and the ‘80 built including some innovative aircrafts, among which a few are unique in the world.
