The Campania region with around 6,000,000 inhabitants is the second region in Italy for population and the first for residents´ density. Situated south of the peninsula and its capital Naples consists of four other provinces: that of Avellino, that of Benevento, Caserta and Salerno. It overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea which delimits the west and southwest border, while the neighboring regions of Lazio to the north-west, Molise to the north, Puglia and Basilicata to the east. The territory is characterized for 80% by hills and mountains, that from the central Apennine ridge come up to the south east; along the seashore can be found volcanic massifs and some plain like the fertile and densely populated plain of Campania and the more south, the plain of Paestum and Salerno. The coasts are in some stretches very beautiful such as the Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. To Campania belongs also the Campanian archipelago composed by Capri, Ischia and Procida and other smaller islands, and we should absolutely mention that Campania is an active region from a volcanic point of view and besides Vesuvius, the volcanoes Roccamonfina, the Phlegrean Fields, Mount Epomeo on the island of Ischia and Procida, Vivara and many other marine volcanoes situated on the seabed of the gulf.

The volcanic ground of Campania offer high soil’s fertility, it follows that the region is among those that produce more farm revenue at nationwide and with many high quality products such as DOP San Marzano tomatoes, extra virgin oils, wines, lemons from the Amalfi coast for the production of the famous Limoncello and more eggplant, potatoes and peanuts for the production of nougat. Besides agriculture, the region is also among the most developed in the industrial south, tied to the burgeoning food transformation (tomatoes, olive oil and pasta), but also in engineering, shipbuilding and aerospace. Fine artistic craft, like that which includes the manufacturing of the clay and ceramics, famous those of Capodimonte and jewelry. Campania is also rich in historical and artistic heritage, the unique ancient city of Pompeii was buried by the ashes of Vesuvius in 79 AD, then the town of Ercolano, Paestum and, more recently the Royal Palace of Caserta, one of the most beautiful of Europe, and numerous other works inspired by the Neapolitan Baroque including the Padula Charterhouse, near Salerno, the biggest in Italy. The city of Naples is a jewel hidden treasures above and below ground, the famous Roman catacombs and the greek-roman theater.
