Bolzano, the provincial capital of South Tyrol, is a commercial and tourist center, rich and varied, attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists. Always named as "the gateway of the Dolomites" now UNESCO heritage, the commercial traffic has made it since antiquity a land of exchange between different cultures: fashion, gastronomy and architecture are the synthesis. In Bolzano there are boutiques with articles of big Italian designer label, traditional clothing like the famous Loden cape, local craft, which gives a fine show in the coloured Christmas Market, wide sports shops where you can find clothing and equipment for skiing and climbing, but also for swimming, cycling and golf. In restaurants and typical Gasthäuser you can enjoy traditional Italian and Tyrolean cuisine, going with excellent wines that are grown still within the city boundaries. But the center of South Tyrol also offers a vibrant culture, the resident Theatre (the second Italian theater founded after the war), the Auditorium, in which another institution performed: the Haydn Orchestra, are often sold out. Since some years in the city and in the vicinity have also organizes an interesting Jazz Festival. The archaeological museum of the famous Iceman mummy, the Museion of modern art and its castles with famous medieval frescoes, are a inestimable treasure for the city.
